Tilak Maharashtra Vidyalaya House Names
The house names for the Vidyalaya are based on Lokmanya Tilak’s teachings and philosophy. These concepts are relevant even in today’s modern world.
The names were thoughtfully chosen to reflect timeless values that continue to guide and inspire. Each name carries a deeper significance rooted in character, purpose, and collective spirit.
These were conceived and written by our Chairman, Dr. Pranati Tilak, whose note further brings out the essence of each house and the ideals they represent. Her vision continues to shape the ethos of the school in subtle yet meaningful ways.

KESARI
Kesari symbolizes the roar of the courageous and mighty lion that does not put up with injustice and untruth.
Kesari also is significant because of the newspaper which Lokmanya Tilak used as a tool for spreading the message of independence and a strong, modern and powerful India to the people.
Values that the house stands for:
Courage, Fight against injustice.
KARMAYOGI
Lokmanya Tilak believed in one point focus and consistency in aim and effort. He had set the goal of an independent India and worked relentlessly to achieve this till the end of his life.
Lokmanya believed in working towards the set goal with minimum interest in the fame, recognition and appreciation that was a part of the journey.
Values that the house stands for:
Consistent effort, one point focus for achievement of your goal.

SWARAJ
The concept of Swaraj can encapsulate the entire journey of Lokmanya Tilak life. His sole aim was to liberate the people of our country and from the oppressive rule of the British and to achieve his dream of a modern, progressive and self reliant nation.
He believed that true “Swaraj” would be achieved only after the people would not only be liberated, but also when they would be self sufficient in the true sense.
Values that the house stands for:
Self reliance, competency.
SWADESHI
In his journey of making India an independent nation, Lokmanya also strived hard to make India an economically self reliant nation. He posed a boycott on all foreign goods thereby looking within the nation for production and manufacturing of goods.
He believed that this would help our economy to flourish which would then result in a stronger, balanced nation.
Values that the house stands for:
Entrepreneurship, development of skills, building healthy self confidence.
